POLYAMIDE SUSTAINABLE

100% natural: How sustainable is fabric made from castor oil

It doesn't wrinkle, it doesn't smell and it's super sustainable!

100% natural: How sustainable is fabric made from castor oil

We use organic cotton, sustainable bamboo, ECOVERO, Lyocell, Tencel or soft recycled polyester.

Thanks to the castor plant, it has been possible for the first time to produce a bio-polyamide material that is 100% plant-based and at the same time meets the latest technical requirements. Until now, only polyamides made from petroleum could deliver this impressive performance. Natural materials have had one or two disadvantages up to now, and were sometimes not as flexible, did not dry as quickly, or lost their shape more quickly. This is now different thanks to the new material made from castor oil!

Highly functional and sustainable - the ultra-light, breathable super-stretch fabric EVO® polyamide is a real innovation. The seed capsules of the castor plant (Ricinus communis) are used to create a resource-saving, 100% organic yarn. After years of research, the German specialty chemicals company Evonik developed a base material for the high-tech fabric: the biopolyamide Vestamid Terra. In close cooperation with the Italian textile manufacturer Fulgar, it was finally processed into EVO® yarn. Until now, the production of polyester fibers from renewable raw materials has presented researchers with a major challenge. Before the development of Vestamid Terra, the polymers required were produced purely from petroleum. The castor oil is particularly suitable for a functional fiber because the required molecules are already present in their smallest form. This means that no chemical processes are required to break them down. The molecules, also known as monomers, are combined to form a polymer. Energy is only required for the synthesis.

100% biological functional material – a real innovation.

Until now, natural materials have often not been able to keep up with synthetic fibers in terms of elasticity or function. EV® polyamide made from castor oil is changing the market dramatically. With this new type of functional fiber, 100% organic fabrics can also impress in the laundry and functional areas. The fiber offers many advantages: EVO® polyamide is 25% lighter than a product made from 100% polyester, dries twice as quickly as a fabric made from 100% nylon and is also elastic and non-iron. EVO® is also DIN CERTCO and Oeko-Tex certified. Another big plus point of EVO® in the performance area: The bacteriostatic property keeps odors at bay and stops them from forming. The fiber also has heat-insulating properties. High-tech from nature with an excellent ecological balance

The biggest advantage of EV® polyamide, however, is its incomparable ecological balance: the renewable raw material is a functional material with a "green soul" that is clearly more convincing than conventional, petroleum-based polyamides. The castor oil plant is also called the "miracle tree" and is originally native to northeast Africa and the Middle East. The plant has now spread to all tropical zones because it is very undemanding. It thrives particularly well in warm and windless places and even tolerates longer periods of drought. In addition, the castor oil plant is not suitable for food production, which means it does not displace plants for food or animal feed. This means that the tree can also be planted in areas where no agriculture otherwise takes place. The correct care of EV® polyamide

If you wash your clothes made of EVO® polyamide at a maximum of 40 degrees, you will enjoy them for a long time. It is better not to use the dryer, as the fibers can break if the heat is too high. This reduces elasticity and the clothes become stretchy. Ironing the biological high-tech fabric is also not recommended - and thanks to its crease-free nature, it is not necessary. Please always pay attention to the information on the care label or packaging.
